Covered Wagon
Saturday, October 20th, 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM - Camp Norse, Kingston
The Covered Wagon Derby is a fun event where the boys move their wagons from station to station (referred to as 'Towns'). At each station the scouts complete a different task for which they earn a bead that attaches to a leather pocket hanger shaped like a Covered Wagon. The event is non-competitive and is designed to encourage the boys to work together to learn new skills and improve their scouting knowledge. All Cubs can attend, and the groups of boys pulling the wagons do not need to be of the same rank; mixing of the ages is welcomed. The event lasts from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM on Saturday, October 20th. We need a Class 1 Health Form as well as a complete list of boys attending, so please register by signing up on-line at the link below or by contacting Joe De Trolio at 339.8412.
Spotlight on: Wolf Den 1
Wolf Den 1 made dreamcatchers
from scratch at their den meeting on September 26th. Dreamcatchers are an authentic American Indian tradition, from the Ojibway
(Chippewa) tribe. Ojibway people would tie sinew strands in a web around a small round or
tear-shaped frame--in a somewhat similar pattern to how they tied webbing for their
snowshoes--and hang this "dreamcatcher" as a charm to protect sleeping children from
nightmares. The legend is that the bad dreams will get caught in the web.
Participating in Wolf Den 1 are Chris Pinheiro, Jack Cleary, Alan Eilertson, Eric McQuiggan, Jack Kelly, Haig Megerdichian, Patrick Rogers, Matthew Buiser, Jack Munroe, David Gracia, and Ben Horowitz.
Community Service
Service to others is a core value of Scouting, and since Pack 7 is chartered by St Mary's Church here in Mansfield, we often coordinate our community service events with St Mary's. Two such service opportunities are:
Coffee and Doughnuts
St Mary's serves coffee and doughnuts in the Parish Center after the 7:30, 9:00, and 10:30 Masses most Sundays from September to May. Each rank will have a turn serving one Sunday during the year. The boys make juice, carry out doughnuts and drinks, make sure the coffee carafes are full, and clean up. This year's schedule is:
- Webelos I - January 27th
- Webelos II & Tigers - February 10th
- Wolves - February 24th
- Bears - March 30th
Food Baskets
Pack 7 will be collecting food items at the October pack meeting for the Society of St Vincent DePaul Holiday food drive. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic volunteer organization that offers assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis.
Please bring one or two items of non-perishable food suitable for Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday meals.
About PayPal
Pack 7 recently added PayPal to allow people to pay for events online at the time they sign up. This feature is meant to save people the time and effort of sending a check through the mail or handing it to a leader at a pack meeting. Now that the system is in place, we have found that the processing fee charged by PayPal, 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, has a greater effect on Pack finances than originally anticipated, therefore we will be adding a small transaction fee to PayPal payments. This fee does not apply when you pay for an event by check.
Order a Pack 7 T-Shirt
Pack 7 is taking orders for our new Cub Scout
t-shirts - gold tee with blue lettering (design shown at left). These t-shirts are considered a "Class B" Cub Scout uniform and can be worn in place of
the regular uniform shirt on Pack outings where they are useful in keeping track of all the scouts.
The cost of the t-shirts is $7.00 each when paying by check, or $7.50 each if you wish to use PayPal to order and pay. Available sizes are: Youth Small, Medium, and Large and Adult Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large, and XXX-Large. Get one for everybody in the family!

Committee Meetings
First Wednesday of Every Month
All parents are strongly encouraged to attend the monthly Pack 7 Committee Meetings, held the first Wednesday of each month, generally at 7:00 PM (location varies). These meetings are for planning Pack 7 activities, and an opportunity for den leaders and parents to share ideas and feedback about how the pack and dens are running. The stronger the involvement, the better the pack is run. Contact Committee Chairman Dick Masison at 337.9951 for more information.
November Pack Meeting
Thursday, November 15th, 7:00 PM - Jordan-Jackson Cafeteria
For November's pack meeting we will have visitors from Plimoth Plantation.
