November Pack Meeting

For the November pack meeting we welcome visitors from Plimoth Plantation, who will tell us about life in the early years of colonial Massachusetts.
New England Aquarium Overnight: Second Session Added
Saturday, February 16th to Sunday, February 17th
Cost: $50 per person
Because of the great response, Pack 7 has added a second overnight trip to the New England Aquarium.
The program fee includes one free IMAX theatre ticket and an Overnight Patch (valid for one free child admission to the Aquarium through 2008). The program starts at 7:00 PM, plan to be there by 6:30 PM. The overnight concludes at 9:00 AM Saturday. A late-night snack and breakfast are included, but not dinner Friday night.

Mansfield Holiday Parade
Sunday, November 25th, 3:00 PM
Join Pack 7 as we match in Mansfield's annual Holiday Parade. This year we are going to try a tropical holiday theme. Wear your leis and bring your beach balls and any extra Halloween candy to pass out. Dens can plan something fun to do or sing. We will be pulling a boat and may end at Joe DeTrolio's house for hot chocolate. More info to follow. Please contact Michele McCormick if you can help organize this event.
Spotlight on: Webelos II Den 1
It was a busy month for our Webelos II den. First, they visited the Oak Knoll
Audubon wildlife sanctuary in Attleboro to complete the geologist badge. The boys
conducted experiments on rocks to identify characteristics such as
hardness and acidity and they viewed and handled many unusual rock types. The boys
also studied volcanos and dissected a clay model of the earth showing it's inner
layers. Each Scout also made his own fossil.
Each Fall, Webelos II scouts are invited to attend a Boy Scout campout. Earlier this month, the entire den attended the annual Turkey Fest campout with Troop 51 at Camp Squanto in the Miles Standish State Forest. The Webelos practiced hiking skills as they viewed the forest and the lake. They learned to cook skills as well as how to hard boil eggs without a pot, and played Indian games - poison ball was a favorite. There were also lessons about properly pitching a tent and the boys tested out their camping skills. Most importantly Webelos returned home with a true understanding of "team work" and gained an understanding of what they have to look forward to in Boy Scouts.
Community Service
Service to others is a core value of Scouting, and since Pack 7 is chartered by St Mary's Church here in Mansfield, we often coordinate our community service events with St Mary's. Two such service opportunities are:
Coffee and Doughnuts
St Mary's serves coffee and doughnuts in the Parish Center after the 7:30, 9:00, and 10:30 Masses most Sundays from September to May. Each rank will have a turn serving one Sunday during the year. The boys make juice, carry out doughnuts and drinks, make sure the coffee carafes are full, and clean up. This year's schedule is:
- Webelos I - January 27th
- Webelos II & Tigers - February 10th
- Wolves - February 24th
- Bears - March 30th
Order a Pack 7 T-Shirt
Pack 7 is taking orders for our new Cub Scout
t-shirts - gold tee with blue lettering (design shown at left). These t-shirts are considered a "Class B" Cub Scout uniform and can be worn in place of
the regular uniform shirt on Pack outings where they are useful in keeping track of all the scouts.
The cost of the t-shirts is $7.00 each when paying by check, or $7.50 each if you wish to use PayPal to order and pay. Available sizes are: Youth Small, Medium, and Large and Adult Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large, and XXX-Large. Get one for everybody in the family!

Committee Meetings
First Wednesday of Every Month
All parents are strongly encouraged to attend the monthly Pack 7 Committee Meetings, held the first Wednesday of each month, generally at 7:00 PM (location varies). These meetings are for planning Pack 7 activities, and an opportunity for den leaders and parents to share ideas and feedback about how the pack and dens are running. The stronger the involvement, the better the pack is run. Contact Committee Chairman Dick Masison at 337.9951 for more information.
